E. Ward –
When this espresso maker arrived my first impression was that the portafilter was flimsy compared to my Sylvia Racillo that I had used for twenty years before it quit working. I don’t expect this one to last twenty years but it does a couple of things very well. It makes great tasting espresso with lots of crema and it truly is anti-static.

For months I’ve been studying espresso machines and waffling on whether I wanted a real machine or a small appliance. I decided to start with something small and easy. My son-in-law was visiting on Prime day, and he’s an expert chef whose home machine cost $1800. He looked at the specs and said this one should make good standard espressos, which is all I really want. I’m loving it and he says the espressos do meet the standard quite well. I’m not yet great at the shiny thick steamed milk, but I’m getting better. It heats up in about 30 seconds and clean-up is a breeze. I can’t know how long it will last of course, but I’ll update if it disappoints. I hope for the best because I really like it. By the way, my water tank does not leak as some people have reported.

Edit: It’s been a few weeks and I feel just as good about it as I did when I received it. I officially have been making hot mochas, and I’m VERY impressed with the quality. While the milk frother sounds like a dying cat (I still maintain this – but eh whatever), it actually WORKS. So with my fancy tools to make sure I’ve got a great shot pull, I’m able to make barista/cafe-grade latte’s and mochas. For $125 at home!!!–I have only had this machine for a few days, and I will update my review if I need to, but so far, I am impressed. This is my third at home machine, and very far the cheapest. I had some DeLonghi kinds in years past that had less bar pressure and also didn’t work very well for milk frothing. It can feel a little cheap, but where matters, it feels sturdy. For example, the portafilter, which is 51 mm, is very heavy duty. Also, I’ve had these kinds of machines and it’s just better to pour water into the tank using a different pitcher. This helps take stress off of the rubber gasket when you pull the tank on and off, FYI.I’ve already bought a tamper and a little mat, and I’m experimenting with with the length of the pull and the coarseness of my beans because I have a nice burr grinder as well. I haven’t tried messing with the amount of time it pulls the shot yet, but I imagine it will let me. If I can’t, I’m going to come back and update my review. With any at home machine, there is a learning curve. But once you get there, you can create really high-quality drinks if you have the right grinder and coffee beans to go alongside it.

This machine is very easy to set up and does the job. However, the water tank slowly (but consistently) leaks so I have to empty out after each use otherwise my counter will be wet. This happened with the first machine I received; I returned it to Amazon and was disappointed when the replacement did the same thing. I honestly don’t have the patience to return it again and look for another product in my price range that does as good of a job with the actual espresso so I’m just going to suck it up and empty out the leftover water after each use. But I definitely wouldn’t buy again.EDIT: Although the machine leaks, I immediately was contacted by the company’s customer service to help fix the issue. Also, aside from the leak, the machine does a great job making espresso and meats my needs. For that reason, I’m changing the rating from 2 to 5.

This produces a great cup of espresso. Look at that crema. Highly recommended. Much better than the old consumer espresso machines. Must be the higher pressure they are using similar to commercial machines.

I have no complaints other than I wish it came with the steamer cup and stirrer. It’s otherwise perfection and I’m now obsessed with espresso.

I wanted to love this Ilavie espresso machine! I purchased it during prime day for an excellent price! The first machine had a defective metal funnel (Portafilter), therefore, the one cup steel mesh filter could not be removed from the portafilter. I reached out for support through Amazon. I returned the machine, and requested a replacement. The replacement arrived quickly, however, the new machine, is actually a previously used machine. I have included photos showing the machine has been used including a photo showing the splatter that comes from brewing espresso, espresso grounds dried onto the machine where you insert the portafilter funnel, and the missing key from the instruction booklet that is used to unblock the steam wand. The machine is a wonderful size, has a sleek look, and seems that it would be very easy to use! I will be returning this second machine because someone else obviously returned it for their own reason!
