I bought this when it was on a daily special so got a nice price on it. My first espresso machine, this one is really easy to use. Read the manual first. I recently got an email from the manufacturer regarding its use and what they were addressing I already knew from reading the manual. Now I’m obsessed and getting all the fun extras to compliment my machine; a frothing pitcher, a nice tamper (the one that comes with the machine is plastic and doesn’t work that well) and other barista gadgets. I’ve gotten good at frothing milk by watching You Tube; no end to newbie barista how to videos. Although this machine is little (12” x 8” footprint), it does everything I need it to do. The only reason I would graduate to a bigger machine is to get one that grinds my beans. For now, I keep my Illy Classico Espresso grind on auto-delivery from Amazon.

The machine itself appears very well made and of very good quality; however, I was both disappointed and concerned with the brittle, thin plastic used for the reservoir and the hard plastic used for the ports where the espresso comes out. I’ll detail all my concerns:First, and of lesser concern, I can easily see the reservoir cracking if care isn’t taken due to the type of plastic it’s made with, particularly given that I tend to be tough on stuff. The reservoir also has a lid that can’t be removed. The arms which hold the lid onto the reservoir slide up and down and enable the lid to fold over and out of the way for cleaning the interior and for filling; but I didn’t like that there was no way to remove the lid and was concerned that the attachment points or arms themselves might break easily if I was not careful or in a hurry. My biggest concern, however, is health-related, due to the type of plastics used for the reservoir and on outlets or ports of the portafilter. The fairly thin (compared to that of my old machine) brittle, non-recyclable plastic of the reservoir has the feel of the cheaper plastic that breaks into pieces under pressure (vs merely cracking); meaning, in this case, the type that’s associated with leaching toxic chemicals, including BPA and PFAS. Both BPA and PFAS are known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down naturally, will accumulate in the body and are associated with cancers, thyroid disorders, liver issues, low sperm count and other serious health issues. Not a good material to use when used for storage of the water. Also, there’s another type of hard plastic used for the ports of the portafilter where the espresso comes out. Given the high temps of the espresso, I was very concerned about the potential for leaching toxins that might be found in that type of plastic.I compared the Gevi reservoir and portafilter to that of my old, now-broken (DeLongi) machine which I’m replacing due to it having over-temped. The reservoir on my old machine was made of a thicker, sturdier and recyclable plastic which was far less concerning. The material used in my old machine’s portafilter ports where the espresso comes out appears to be a firmer version of the same heavy duty silicon or similar material that’s used for the ring that is located inside the filter where you put the grounds. Maybe they too leach, but compared to the type of plastic on this machine, it’s far less concerning. The bottom line: the type of plastic used in the Gevi was of such significant concern to me that I’m returning it. I likely will order a DeLongi which I started to order in the first place, unless I can find (and afford) a machine that preferably has glass or BPA-free plastic or other materials that aren’t so concerning. If Gevi would come out with future models that offered less concerning material, I’d not hesitate to buy their product, as the quality otherwise appears solid. I am just not comfortable given what I’ve mentioned which were deal breakers for me. Hope that helps.

I watched the videos in the reviews and read the instructions prior to use. The machine work’s amazing and is so simple to use. I highly suggest it.

We have no experience with an espresso machine and we read lots of reviews and decided on this one.I AM SO GLAD WE CHOSE IT!IT IS SO EAST TO USE AND MAKES DELICIOUS ESPRESSO FOR OIR ICED LATTES!!

  5. Cheryl Bernson

This took a long time to get used to. The temperature has to be perfect or it’ll flash lights at you. It can’t be too hot or again it’ll start flashing. It does make a good cup of coffee if you pay attention to its rules.

  6. Rloera

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife and she loved it. It was affordable and it’s perfect…small but not to small…fits perfectly on our counter under the upper cabinets…easy to use ( after watching the YouTube video). Most importantly, the wife loves it.

My husband and I were worried we wouldn’t catch on and it would be difficult. This espresso machine is amazing. I I highly recommend. It is easy to use, clean and it’s efficient! I recommend using the Lavazo espresso. It comes grinded and makes the perfect latte .
