3 reviews for Gevi Espresso Machine 15 Bar Pump Pressure, Expresso Coffee Machine With Milk Frother Steam Wand, Espresso and Cappuccino Maker,

I bought this espresso maker because I was attracted to the fact that the unit looked good and the reviews were pretty decent, or at least I perceived them to be. The maker looks like its built pretty solid. Lifting it it does have some heft to it. I bought the chrome and black version. The chrome/ brushed metal makes it look very nice. Now, lets get to how it works. I bought this while I was on the road for my house mate so she could make espresso in the morning. The first thing I hear from her is that it doesn’t work. That’s not something you want to hear about a $100+ purchase. She said she read the manual and followed it. This is where this unit, in my opinion, has some design issues. The interface is not intuitive. It has three buttons on the front and a pressure/temp gauge. One button is a power button, one button is for making espresso and one is for putting the unit into frothing mode that boosts the temp so there’s steam. All three buttons are push toggle. You push the button in and it stays in (on) and you push it in again (all the way) and it comes out (off). The espresso pump will not work if the frothing button is on, this the issue my house mate had.Unlike some other espresso units I’ve bought this unit doesn’t measure singles and doubles. The pump is either on or off and it’s up to you to have the proper measuring cups to measure a single or double. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Maybe I was just spoiled by the other units I’ve had.Let’s talk about the manual. One word describing it, it’s atrocious. The whole manual is on a small piece of paper, front and back. The type is extremely small and requires a magnifying glass to read. If you’re going to sell anything in the U.S. like this a proper manual is a must. This doesn’t even come close. The English is terrible and sometimes it leaves you going “Wait, um, what?”. The company cut corners on this. They need to pay someone who knows English and how to create a proper manual. While I ripped the unit and company a bit the fact is that I got it working. It does pull a good cup. I am not thrilled that the pressure makes steam come out of the head and filter when put in frothing mode. If you have coffee in it from pulling a cup then it’s going to leak out. This should have been built better. While my house mate has started the return process I haven’t decided whether or not to do so. It works and while it’s not perfect it could be a good interim while I’m saving up for a Delonghi. Some sellers approach individuals with bribes asking them to remove bad reviews. This is a warning to this seller. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. Make a good product.

I was very excited to receive this product and immediately started reading the manual. I ran a test with just water to get a sense of ease of use. These are the things I discovered:above all, it makes a delicious cappuccino. I’ve already made about three cups and used a couple of different brands of coffee as well as with A2 minimally pasteurized milk and goat milk with the same result. It’s tasty.I find that rather than filling up the back water reservoir with more than you need it’s best to take a measuring cup and fill it with between 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of water. This way you don’t have to be on guard to make sure there are no accidental overflows of coffee.Use the same measuring cup to froth the milk however always keep another cup or disposable coffee cup near the steam frother nozzle as you will need something to catch the first few mls of steam water before frothing your milk.Using only exact quantities of water and milk will make the entire experience way easier to clean up after.Cons:1. you can only fit smaller cups. I couldn’t fit any of my disposable coffee cups or any of my regular coffee mugs. So already, I’m giving up some convenience that I already had with my previous working coffee system.2. The unit is light weight however requires lots of stern maneuvering in order to get the expresso filter handle fitted in. IT was really annoying to have to hold this thing down while trying to get the filter on.3. There is no automatic stop. When you have the amount of coffee you want then you’ll need to press a button to stop it. Again giving up more conveniences here, No one wants to stand by their coffee while it’s being made.4. the steam frother was a bit of an after thought. the nozzle is small, it spouts water first so you can’t just take your cup of milk and start steaming right away. you’ll need a separate cup to catch the piping hot bursts of hot water first. Don’t get me wrong I understand that it happens even on the best machines but this machine is too small, too flimsy and is not the best machine for all the tinkering that’s needed. In the end I feel like this product should not exist. It’s in a nice price bracket but it’s a waste of money. It’s trying to have all the features that a grand expresso station would have but in a small toy-like quality frame. I was making far superior coffee on my stove top expresso maker and getting far superior frothed milk with a 30 dollar electric counter milk frother.

This is a great low cost espresso machine. The pump is powerful enough to produce a perfect tasty cup of espresso that reveals all the layers of flavor without sourness or bitterness. It brings out the smoky, sweet , chocolate and caramel of a fresh roasted quality coffee. There are some rules to use this machine. First, the basket holds enough coffee for two shots. You must fill the basket and tamp it down properly. You can’t get a good shot trying just to fill it with one shot of coffee. Second, this machine doesn’t time the shot. You press the pump button to start and must press it again to stop. You should get a good 250 ml beaker and pump about 75-100 ml before pressing the pump button again to stop the pump. Experience will help you pull the perfect shot. Third, before putting the basket on the coffee maker, pump some water through to heat the head first. Fourth, the basket is a portafilter. It creates a great head of beautiful crema but it requires a little extra care to clean. After removing the inner basket lightly scrub the bottom of the inner basket and the inside of the handle basket with a small nylon brush, then reassemble and with no coffee in the basket, put it on the machine and pump hot water through it just to clean out the coffee oil for a longer life.I actually prefer a machine that requires a little skill. This is that machine. It’s a great bargain.
